And the downward spiral continues throughout September and October as well since this update is quite late …
Stock Trades
Nothing happened on the trade front with the portfolio.
It’s the time to buy some of the beaten-down stocks in my view but there are other priorities on the money front for now so I am not buying. I put money in GWO and BSN earlier in the year.
Great West Life paid off but Scotia Bank is still not bouncing back as you all know.
Portfolio Management
Are the down markets raising concerns about diversification? When markets are down, it’s easy to start questioning everything but in the end, in my opinion, there are only two concepts of diversification; fixed income (not ETFs) and stocks (yes ETFs).
At the moment, I am 100% into equities. I am also not retired and still working. I would like to reach $100,000 in dividends before considering stopping work.
I have started a leveraged portfolio which I will share the update at the end of the month. The corporate portfolio is mostly in income stocks (with little growth) but with many beaten-down stocks, I have started adding stocks over covered call ETFs.
Dividend Income
My September 2023 dividend income is $1,990. Dividend income provides a measure of progress but you need to compare it to historical data to see the progress.
Here is what my dividend income has been and how I forecast future dividend income. 19.95% is the average dividend growth since 2010.
The dividend growth includes both new money, DRIP shares, and the dividend growth by the companies.
If you want high income, check out the corp account. This retirement account has a yield of 2.17%.
