Retirement Investors
A retirement investor, especially one nearing or in retirement, often faces the challenge of balancing the need for income with the fear of outliving their savings.
After years of accumulation, the shift to drawing down a portfolio can be emotionally and financially stressful, particularly in uncertain markets. Common fears include market downturns eroding their nest egg, inflation diminishing purchasing power, and unexpected expenses disrupting their plans.
There is also a very real struggle with deciding how much risk to take, how to generate reliable income, and when to draw from various accounts like RRSPs, TFSAs, or pensions. The goal is often to preserve capital, maintain a comfortable lifestyle, and achieve peace of mind, but doing so requires careful planning, disciplined investing, and sometimes confronting uncomfortable trade-offs.
