Altius provides financing in the form of royalties and streams to diversified commodity and renewable energy operators. Altius's strategy is to create per share growth through a diversified portfolio of royalty assets that relate to long life, high margin operations.
This strategy further provides shareholders with exposures that are well aligned with sustainability-related global growth trends including the electricity generation transition from fossil fuel to renewables, transportation electrification, reduced emissions from steelmaking, and increasing agricultural yield requirements. These each hold the potential to cause increased demand for many of Altius's commodity exposures including copper, renewable based electricity, several key battery metals (lithium, nickel, and cobalt), clean iron ore, and potash.
Altius has built a portfolio of directly and indirectly held junior resource investments that have been generated from founding and earn in option related payments through its joint venture strategy to advance projects as well as selective investing in other top-quality juniors employing a project generation and joint venture business model. Furthermore, the company further seeks royalty interests in projects with long duration resources to maximize future option value realization potential.
The operators have control over the assets underlying the company’s royalties and are exposed to a range of material ESG factors. Altius faces indirect exposure to its operators’ ESG risks and opportunities as operators’ management of these factors could impact performance, company value, and therefore, Altius’ royalty streams. Altius also faces direct exposure to a set of ESG risks and opportunities related to its corporate operations as a capital provider and publicly traded company.
They engaged an expert third-party, ESG Global Advisors, to conduct an ESG Materiality Assessment focused on identifying the ESG factors with the greatest potential to have a material impact on the value of their business, both directly through their corporate operations and indirectly through their operators.
